Passionate about volunteering and gardening?
You can become a Master Gardener by participating in the Master Gardener Core Training. ISU Extension & Outreach is providing 40 hours of training for new Master Gardeners in 2016 on Tuesdays in September, October and November in locations across the state. Contact your local Extension & Outreach office to find out if the training will be offered.
Register by September 1, 2016 online.
Classes will be held on Tuesdays, September 27, 2016 through November 15, 2016
Plus three additional local classes and a Saturday class on campus (October 8 or 22).
Master Gardeners will gain educational hours while learning about the realities of hunger in Iowa, the best way to work with food banks, donation garden food safety, and more. Three two-hour webinars will be offered at an ISU Extension & Outreach county office near you including Altoona, Atlantic, Clarion, Cresco, Denison, DeWitt, Dubuque, Fayette, Fort Dodge, Hull, Humboldt, Independence, Mediapolis, Mt. Pleasant, Maquoketa, Muscatine, Nevada, Oskaloosa, Ottumwa, Pocahontas, Sac City, Sigourney, Sioux City, Storm Lake, Tripoli, Washington, Webster City, and Winterset.
In 2016, Master Gardeners will have the opportunity to grow produce for food banks while volunteering at ISU Research Farms. Volunteers can help at farms in Atlantic, Crawfordsville, Gilbert, Kanawha, Muscatine, Nashua, and Rock Rapids. All webinars qualify for Master Gardener educational hours. Attendance is required by those applying for mini grants to support food security projects.
