Each course is five weeks long and may be taken for one undergraduate or graduate credit, or for non credit. The houseplant course begins Jan. 9, the vegetables course begins Feb. 13 and the annual flowers course begins March 27. The 4th Annual ISU Extension Linn County Master Gardeners Winter Gardening Fair will be held on Saturday January 21st, 2006 from 9am-4pm at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids. This year's fair offers 26 classes on a variety of gardening subjects for the beginning or the experienced gardener. Keynote speaker Harlan Hamernik from Bluebird Nursery in Clarkson, NE will give a keynote presentation on Plant Selection for All Season Interest and will also teach classes on Xeriscaping and Clematis. Join Illinois Master Gardener coordinator Monica David and horticulture instructional materials specialist Ken McPheeters for an 11-day trip to the Pacific Northwest. Visit a wide variety of public gardens, plus private gardens only open by special arrangement. Travel will be coordinated by travel consultant Robyn Gulstrom of Travel House. Robyn has worked in the travel business for 30 years and specializes in trips with a theme. Come help us develop our theme of Gardens for Gardeners. Travelers will enjoy a well-planned, organized trip. Arrangements for ground transportation in Portland, Seattle and Vancouver, air transportation from Chicago to Portland and Vancouver to Chicago, garden admissions, and housing will be made for you. Just grab some comfortable walking shoes, a hat, your camera, and plenty of energy to see the best the Pacific Northwest has to offer gardeners we'll be traveling during the peak of summer flowering.
