The Perennial Flower Farm

The Perennial Flower Farm specializes in rare and unusual species and cultivars.  We’re a small family run nursery which began in 1988 amidst the corn and soybean fields of Northeast Iowa.  Our goal is to present exceptional perennials, biennials, annuals and rock garden plants to others, hoping to broaden everyone’s experience of the marvelous diversity and beauty of the world’s flora.

Each year we start more than 1000 species from seed purchased from some of the finest private collectors in the world.  They traverse such exotic places as the isolated mountain tops of Turkey and Tien Chien, sometimes dodging bullets to obtain many of the exquisite alpine and saxatile rarities.

Our nursery has been invited to and attended the Denver Botanic Garden’s Spring Plant Sale, the North American Rock Garden Society’s annual convention and plant sale in Snow Bird, Utah as well as their annual convention in Minneapolis, MN.  We attended on multiple occasions, The Green Herb Festival and Brucemore Lawn and Garden Show.  In fact, we have a standing invitation to attend any of Denver Botanic Garden’s plant sales.

Among the plants we plan to bring to the show are Asian Woodland perennials, Alpine & Rock Garden perennials and Native Cacti and succulents.   Photos of some of our selections are Corydalis ‘Nobilis’ and Rodgersia x ‘Henrici Hy’ (both Asian woodland perennials); the Echinocereus ‘reichenbachii v. perbellum’ (native cacti) and an example of many plant selections in one of our shady alpine & rock gardens.  We are located in Zone 4, so our plants are hardy stock.

Our hours are May 15 – September 30; 9 am–7 pm Tuesday-Saturday, 10 am-3pm Sunday or by appointment.  Closed Monday.
